Using the insight she gained from her research on “Safety in Spaces: A School’s Story of Identity and Community,” Mel Freitag plans to continue to serve historically underrepresented populations in her new role through mentorship, recruitment, student programs, curriculum initiatives, and faculty/staff professional development. She hopes the students’ and teachers’ voices and stories will shape how and what it means to be a more welcoming and supportive school that continues to invite and embrace unique perspectives.
